- As
Thailand’s
37th Envoy to the United States, I take great pleasure in welcoming
you to the Internet website of the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C.
-
- The
Home Page of the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., is aimed at providing
comprehensive and accurate information about Thailand — her politics, economy,
society and foreign affairs — as well as views and commentaries concerning
the Royal Thai Government’s positions on various issues. It also offers
consular information for Thai people in the United States and over 300,000
Americans who visit Thailand each year. At the same time, our Home Page
also provides you with links to various sites of Thai government agencies
and mass media on the World Wide Web, which contain useful and updated
information about Thailand.
-
- I
wish
to take this opportunity to recount the close relationship between Thailand
and the United States which dates back to 1833 when the Treaty
of Amity and Commerce between the Kingdom of Siam and the United States
was signed during the time of His Majesty King Rama III and The Honorable
President Andrew Jackson. This Treaty was the first of its kind between
an Asian nation and the United States. The historical friendship between
the two countries have since then, after 171 years, grown ever closer and
matured into a partnership based on mutual interest, mutual benefits and
shared values — a partnership that has expanded to cover a wide range of
issues, be it political, economic and trade, military, cultural, or technical.
-
- The
Home Page has been developed in response to the growing demand in the United
States for information about Thailand from members of the business, governmental
and academic sectors as well as the general public. In return, the Home
Page has provided us with a valuable opportunity to reach out to American
educators, school children and the general public as well as to hear their
responses on issues relating to Thai - U.S. relationship. I hope you will
find the visit to our Home Page both interesting and informative. At the
same time, we welcome any comments
or suggestions you may have as to how this website can be further improved,
making it a better and more useful tool for all those interested in Thailand
and Thai - U.S. relations.
