The US Congressional Staff Delegation pays a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister

            On 5 September 2008, a group of eight US Congressional Staff Delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr. Sahas Bunditkul, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister, at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Sahas expressed appreciation on the successful visit to Thailand of the US President George Bush and First Lady Laura Bush between 6-7 August 2008, which showed the close and cordial relations between Thailand and the United States.

On this occasion, Mr. Sahas briefed the US Congressional Staff Delegation on the current political situation in Thailand that the Royal Thai Government would deal with the situation in accordance with the rule of law and the Constitution of Thailand. Both sides also exchanged views on various issues- - relations and cooperation between ASEAN and the US under Thailand’s Chairmanship, situation in the Southern Border Provinces, child labors, and human trafficking problems.

The visit is part of “the Congressional Staff Delegation Visit to Thailand” programme, which has continued for more than 10 years by the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington. The programme aims to give first-hand information on Thailand to the invited US Congressional Staff Delegation in order to make them better understand Thailand, and to create a network of so called Friends of Thailand in the US Congress.
