The 81st Birthday Anniversary of H.M. the King
of Thailand
and Thai National Day 2008 in Washington, D.C., USA.
On the evening of 5 December 2008, a reception was held
at the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., to celebrate the auspicious occasion
of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand’s 81st Birthday Anniversary and
Thai National Day. Some 400 distinguished guests including Deputy Assistance Secretary
of Defense Department, James Clad, as a Guest of Honor, along with diplomatic corps,
U.S. officials, and other dignitaries in Washington, D.C. participated in this event.
In the following night, the Royal Thai Embassy and the Thai Alliance in America,
the oldest Thai association in the U.S., jointly held another reception night on
the same occasion for the Thai community. Officials, family members of the Thai
government agencies and members of Thai communities in Washington, D.C. and its
vicinity harmoniously took part in this solemn night to show their revered love
and respect to His Majesty the King.
A religious ceremony was also held at Wat Thai Washington, D.C. on 7 December 2008
which the Venerable Abbot along with other monks chanted Buddhist prayers and gave
a sermon in tribute to His Majesty’s good health and long live. Later, the Thai
Community, represented by Charge d’ Affaires, heads of each Thai government agency
and presidents of each Thai association, presented flower bouquets before the portrait
of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in honor of His Majesty the King.
