The 5th Annual Asian Festival 2008

            On Saturday, 9 August 2008 at 10.00 hrs., Mr. Damrong Kraikruan, Charge D’Affaires a.i., Capt. Pichet Tanaset, Naval Attache and Assistant Defense Attache, Mr. Rapibhat Chandarasrivongs, Minister-Counselor (Agricultural), as Guest of Honors, together with officials and staff of the Embassy, Office of the Naval Attache, and other Thai government agencies, participated in the 5th Annual Asian Festival 2008 at Lake Newport Square, Reston, Virginia.

The event was organized by The Thai Tennis Organization in America (TTOA), with Singha Beer as one of the main sponsors, on August 9-10, 2008 to promote a greater understanding of Asian countries and culture.

This year, they were showcasing China to celebrate the spirit of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In addition, all participating Asian countries had an opportunity to share their unique music, cultural performances, food, fashion, handicrafts, products and entertainment. A number of organizations and embassies from Thailand, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Laos showcased their cultural heritage by displaying their country’s art, literature, tourism, culture and history at different booths and exhibitions that were set up around the event.

There were four prizes for the following categories: Most Colorful; Most Informative; Most Innovative; and Most Integrated which were voted by the visitors. This year, the Thai booth, decorated by Office of the Naval Attache, Royal Thai Embassy, and Team Thailand, received “Most Informative” prize. Other winners were “Most Colorful”: Laos Community of USA, “Most Innovative”: the Embassy of Korea, and “Most Integrated”: The Embassy of the Philippines and Philippine Communities.

Approximately 50,000 visitors enjoyed Asian food, goods, music, performances, and other activities in the two-day event.

งาน The 5th Annual Asian Festival 2008

            เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ 9 สิงหาคม 2551 เวลา 10.00 น. นายดำรง ใคร่ครวญ อุปทูต ณ กรุงวอชิงตัน น.อ. พิเชฐ ตานะเศรษฐ รน. ผู้ช่วยทูตฝ่ายทหารเรือ ทำหน้าที่รองผู้ช่วยทูตฝ่ายทหาร นายระพีภัทร์ จันทรศรีวงศ์ อัครราชทูตที่ปรึกษา (ฝ่ายการเกษตร) ในฐานะแขกเกียรติยศ พร้อมด้วยข้าราชการและเจ้าหน้าที่ท้องถิ่น สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ สำนักงานผู้ช่วยทูตฝ่ายทหารเรือ และหน่วยงานไทยต่างๆ ได้เข้าร่วมงาน The 5th Annual Asian Festival 2008 ที่ Lake Newport Square, Reston มลรัฐเวอร์จิเนีย

            งานนี้จัดโดย The Thai Tennis Organization in America (TTOA) โดยมีเบียร์สิงห์เป็นหนึ่งในผู้สนับสนุนหลัก จัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 9-10 สิงหาคม 2551 เพื่อส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรมและความสัมพันธ์อันดีระหว่างประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชีย โดยในปีนี้ จุดเด่นของงานอยู่ที่การประชาสัมพันธ์การแข่งขันกีฬาโอลิมปิกของจีน ร่วมด้วยการเผยแพร่ศิลปวัฒนธรรม การแสดงดนตรี หัตถกรรม การท่องเที่ยว การจำหน่ายอาหาร ฯลฯ จากประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชียต่างๆ เช่น ไทย เกาหลี ฟิลิปินส์ เวียดนาม พม่า กัมพูชา อินเดีย บังคลาเทศ อินโดนีเซีย และลาว เป็นต้น

            นอกจากนี้ยังมีการมอบรางวัลการตกแต่งบูธยอดเยี่ยม ซึ่งในปีนี้ประเทศไทยได้รับรางวัลสาขา “Most Informative” ส่วนชุมชนลาวในสหรัฐฯ ได้รับรางวัลสาขา “Most Colorful” สถานทูตเกาหลีได้รับรางวัลสาขา “Most Innovative” และสถานทูตฟิลิปปินส์และชุมชนฟิลิปปินส์ได้รับรางวัล “Most Integrated”
มีผู้เข้าร่วมงานทั้งสองวันรวมประมาณ 50,000 คน
